What's new?

I guess it's time for our biannual website update! :-) 2014 has been an intense year and we're quite proud of the games we had the opportunity to work on. In addition to Papers, Please and Tengami, we can now add titles like Munin, Blue Estate, Space Run, Shovel Knight, Randal's Monday and Dreamfall Chapters to our portfolio of translated games, plus a few others that are yet to be released. We'll try to create individual pages for each of these titles in the coming days.

Tengami is now available worldwide on iOS. It should be coming soon to PC and Wii U. Dispite the small amount of text found in the game, Nyamyam decided to localize the game into more than 10 languages, and that really seemed to pay off in terms of chart positions all around the world. So kudos to them! I'm really looking forward to seeing more games from them in a near future.

Also note that the international version of Daedalic's 1954: Alcatraz is planned for March 11. That will include our French subtitles for the game.

Papers, Please, the dystopian document thriller, is now available in several languages and we're really happy that Lucas Pope asked us to provide French translations for his game. Working with him has been a wonderful experience, we've rarely seen someone with such an attention to detail and a genuine concern for quality. In the end, we're really proud of the result. We hope it will help the game find a whole new audience.

Let's try to summarize in a few paragraphs what happened during these last six months. Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded was released in June. We had a lot of fun working on this updated and improved version of legendary series first episode. Josh Mandell and Al Lowe's humor is often challenging to translate and we had to adapt many puns and jokes, but that's precisely what makes it exciting: it stimulates your creativity (and Larry certainly knows quite a bit about stimulation). And as an extra bonus, I got the chance to meet the wonderful Al Lowe during Gamescom. Talk of a dream-come-true moment for an adventure game fan such as me!

We then helped the Compulsion Games team polish the French version of Contrast. The game, which will be available very shortly, is nothing short of amazing and I really fell under the spell of its wonderful atmosphere.

Early September, we started working with Daedalic on the Deponia series. We did a complete rewriting of an existing translation of Deponia 2 and took care of the translation of Deponia 3. It was a mammoth undertaking given the timeframe, but I've always admired Poki's strong writing and dark humor, so that was really cool.

One year ago, we started talking with friends and colleagues to create a network of independent videogame translators. This informal network has been in effect since the beginning of the year, allowing us to offer to publishers and indie developers an inexpensive and indie-minded alternative to localization agencies. We'll try to explain in more details how this work in a near future, but in the meantime, feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Wow, time flies... These past few months have been hectic and full of interesting changes (hopefully for the better). We'll talk about them in detail soon.

We're really happy to start the year with a great project: the translation of Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded, the remake of the very first Leisure Suit Larry that was successfully kickstarted last May. It brings back a lot of memories as gamers and it's a fun way revisit our origins (Words of Magic was created by two ex-Sierra Online employees). We also have a few very exciting projects on the horizon, let's hope they will materialize.

In the coming days, we'll update our website with the games that we have worked on recently (unfortunately, there are a few ones that we're not allowed to mention here...). In the meantime, we are proud to support Agustin Cordes Kickstarter campaign for Asylum. Only 8 days left to back this very promising adventure game.

Pendulo Studios, creators of the Runaway series and of many great adventure games, have finally decided to launch their crowdfunding campaign. Needless to say that we are supporting them and are involved actively in this project, especially since DAY ONE is ambitious and very promising.

Of course, Gamesplanet Lab is not as popular as Kickstater, but it offers some interesting features, like the ability to pay via Paypal and to have a multilingual project page.

Please support this project and help us to spread the word.

Beside Pinkerton Road and Double Fine Adventure, there are a few other adventure game related crowdfunding campaigns that are ongoing.

* Original Space Quest creators have only four days left to reach their goal and create a new space comedy called SpaceVenture.

* Chris Jones & Aaron Conners, creators of the wonderful Tex Murphy series, have raised enough money to bring back the famous detective, but they still need support to create a bigger game and have it translated into French, German, Spanish and Italian. And I know someone who would love to translate the game into French... :-)

* Lilly Looking Through is a small independent adventure game that shows a lot of promise. You can download the short but charming demo if you wish to see for yourself (and wouldn't it be cool if it was in French too?) Anyway, this demo really left us wanting for more.

And let's not forget to congratulate Al Lowe and Replay Games for bringing us back an updated remake of Leisure Suit Larry 1.

What a great time to be an adventure game fan.

We are extremely proud to have supported as much as we could Jane Jensen Kickstarter campaign by creating the PinkertonRoadFrance Youtube channel (providing, with the help of a few other dedicated fans, professionally translated subtitles for all the video of her campaign) and by translating the reward tiers for her Paypal page. Her campaign was successful, but you can still help funding the development of Moebius and get great rewards on the Pinkerton Road official page.

We hope to be able to collaborate on the translation of her upcoming games and really look forward to discovering what she has in stores for adventure gamers.
