When we created Words of Magic in 1998, it was extremely difficult to find translators who had a real knowledge of video games and the quality of the French localizations was more often than not very unsatisfying.

We, on the other hand, grew up with video games: consoles and home computers became really popular when we were just teenagers and we were mesmerized by this new technology and the endless possibilities that it opened in our imagination.

So we decided to stop complaining about the quality of the French versions and to put to good use all these hours spent saving the princess and killing the dragon, saving humankind from certain doom, leading forces of light against armies of darkness (or sometimes the opposite)... After having worked a few years for a French publisher, we decided to start our own company with one ambitious objective: having fun while working and making sure that this fun was still alive for the gamers that would buy the game in French.

As a result, we way we work could be described as craft: at Words of Magic, you won't find scores of anonymous external translators, just a few persons used to working together as a team. We always translate toward our native language, French. Everything is done in-house and we concentrate on only a few projects at a time. As a result, we won't be able to be lighting fast and put ten different persons on the same translation, but if it's the quality of the end product that really matters to you, you won't be disappointed.

Since our creation, we have worked on many great games and met many amazing people. A lot of things may have changed in the video game industry, but our passion for games, storytelling and originality is still intact.
